What you need to know about the ELD Rule in 2017

Hereā€™s how the ELD rule affects you, and how Wiers can help.

The Electronic Logging Device (ELD) rule is an FMCSA initiative to make tracking, managing, and sharing Records of Duty Status (RODS) data faster, easier, and better.

Whereas paper logs can be time consuming and leave the potential for errors, ELDs are installed into a vehicleā€™s engine and automatically record RODS and Hours of Service for you. This eliminates the need for drivers to keep logs and makes compliance and sharing with safety officials much easier.

How the rule works

According to the FMCSA, if youā€™re currently using paper logs or logging software, you must transition to ELDs by December 18, 2017.

If youā€™re currently using Automatic Onboard Recording Devices (AOBRDs) or you start using them before December 18, 2017, you have until December 16, 2019 to transition to ELDs.Ā

Once youā€™re connected to our telematics system, youā€™ll receive detailed reporting, including the location of your fleet and driving performance.

And if a vehicle throws any kind of error code while youā€™re on the road, we receive it and diagnose it right away, allowing us to order parts, schedule mobile service, and keep your downtime to an absolute minimum.
